How to watch Demon Slayer in order
Season 1: Unwavering Resolve Arc (2019)
Mugen Train: the 2020 movie, or the Mugen Train Arc that opens season 2
Season 2: Entertainment District Arc
Season 3: Swordsmith Village Arc
Season 4: Hashira Training Arc
Infinity Castle (2025)
The anime was released almost in story order, so release order and story order differ in only one place: Mugen Train.
Mugen Train: the movie or the TV arc?
They tell the same story. The movie runs 1 h 59 min. The TV version is 7 episodes, 3 h 30 min in all: a new opening episode set just before the train mission, then the movie's story recut into six episodes with new music. Pick one. The movie was made for cinemas and came out first; the TV arc suits you if you would rather keep watching episode by episode. Story order shows the TV arc first because of that new opening episode; release order shows the movie first because it came out a year earlier.
Do I need the compilation films?
No. To the Swordsmith Village and To the Hashira Training were cinema releases that join the last episodes of one arc to the first episode of the next. Everything in them is also in the series. They are listed so you know where they fit, and the essentials filter hides them.
What comes after Infinity Castle?
Infinity Castle is the first film of a planned trilogy based on the manga's Infinity Castle arc. The next two films will be added here once Wikipedia lists a release date for them.
How this list was made
What is included. The four seasons of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime (2019 to 2024), with season 2 split into its two named arcs, plus the Mugen Train film (2020), the two compilation films shown in cinemas (2023 and 2024) and Infinity Castle (2025). Infinity Castle is the first film of a planned trilogy; the next two are not listed until Wikipedia gives them a release date.
Release order uses each title's first release in Japan: the cinema date for films and the first broadcast for TV episodes. Story order: There is no official story order, and the anime was released almost in story order. The one real choice is Mugen Train: the 2020 film and the seven-episode Mugen Train Arc on TV tell the same story, so watch one or the other. The TV arc comes first in story order because its new opening episode is set just before the train mission. The compilation films sit between the two arcs they join, and each title says how it was placed.
Essential. Essential means a main TV arc, the Mugen Train film (or the TV Mugen Train Arc in its place), and Infinity Castle. The TV Mugen Train Arc and the two compilation films repeat material you can see elsewhere, so they are optional, and each says why it is there.
Runtimes. Films use the theatrical running time. Series add up each episode's runtime as listed by TVmaze. Upcoming titles have no confirmed runtime and are left out of every total.
Where our two sources disagree, we use the figure from the title's Wikipedia article (it cites the classification board or the studio) and list both here:
Mugen Train: runtime: Wikipedia 119 min, Wikidata 117 min
To the Hashira Training: runtime: Wikipedia 103 min, Wikidata 104 min
Infinity Castle: release date in Japan: Wikipedia 2025-07-18, Wikidata 2025-07-28
